Every morning at exactly 8:10, an elderly woman boarded the same city bus.
She always sat in the second seat near the window and greeted the driver with a quiet smile.
The driver, who had been working that route for years, had grown used to seeing her.
But one morning, she didn’t appear.
At first he thought she might simply be late.
But when several days passed without seeing her, he began to worry.
One afternoon, he decided to find out what had happened.

At the end of his shift, the driver kept thinking about the woman.
For years she had been part of his daily routine.
She always greeted him kindly and thanked him when she got off the bus.
It felt strange not seeing her.
The next day, during his break, he decided to check the address where she usually got on the bus.
He parked nearby and walked slowly down the quiet street.
After a few minutes, he found the small house where she always waited every morning.
But something was different.
The curtains were closed, and the porch was empty.
He knocked gently on the door.
For a moment, there was silence.
Then an elderly neighbor from the house next door stepped outside.
“Are you looking for Mrs. Thompson?” she asked.
The driver nodded.
The neighbor sighed softly.
“She fell a few days ago and was taken to the hospital,” she said. “She lives alone, so no one was here.”
The driver felt a heavy weight in his chest.
The next morning, before starting his route, he stopped by a small flower shop.
After his shift, he went to the hospital and asked at the front desk.
When he entered the room, the elderly woman looked up in surprise.
For a moment she didn’t recognize him.
Then she smiled.
“The bus driver…” she whispered.
He nodded and placed the flowers beside her bed.
“I noticed you missed your stop,” he said gently.
Tears filled her eyes.
“I thought no one would notice.”
From that day on, their morning greetings meant a little more to both of them.
